Free fonts directories
- Dafont - Maybe the best free fonts directory on the web. About 8,000 fonts classified in more than 70 browsable categories and subcategories. You can get the fonts listed by popularity, day added or alphabetically. You may apply filters and get just the fonts that have accents, euro sign or both. But you always can write in your text sample and get it rendered in all the fonts listed (but you can't select the size) . You can also browse by name or by author (with links to the authors' sites). New fonts, top 100, font tools, and more. English and French.
- Fawnt - One of the largest free fonts archives. More than 9,000 fonts, all with large previews and character maps. Browsable by category or alphabetically. You can render the text in many sizes including up to 250 points, but the customizable preview isn't working now; there are few categories and the internal search engine matches font names -not descriptions, but still very good site. English and German.
- Urban Fonts - Another good one. Thousands of free fonts in 50 categories, and free dingbats. Using your own sample text, and choosing text and background color (but not size) you can render your text in large, antialised images. Public comments and ratings; an active font forum; owner favorites. Cons: low server speed, searching features could be better.
